|The Cthulhu Devival at Burning Flipside 2005
"The Old Ones were, the Old Ones are, and the Old Ones shall be. Not in the spaces we know, but between them. They walk serene and primal, undimensioned and to us unseen. Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the key and guardian of the gate. Past, present, future, all are one in Yog-Sothoth. He knows where the Old Ones broke through of old, and where They shall break through again." --H.P. Lovecraft, "The Dunwich Horror"
Come to the Glory Hole Theatre at midnight on Saturday to unleash the primal forces within us through the five-fold path of humor, masquerade, sexuality, ritual, and taboo. Like the telling of ghost stories around a fire, we will stir up the darkness within while surrounded by the safety of the Flipside community. After gathering at the Glory Hole at midnight on Saturday, our mad congregation will travel throughout our city, calling on the powers of the Old Ones. At the Disinformation Booth on the lower field next to the Pavilion, our shrine to the Great Old Ones will provide all the information you need to find out where to go, which cult to worship with, and new ways to revel. As a community devoted to radical self-expression, it is almost inevitable that Flipside participants will at some point be confronted with activities or behavior which is challenging; the congregation should be prepared to re-examine, communicate, and enforce their own personal boundaries. Our Devival will include an exploration of blood magic, and ritual sexuality; all participants will be required to read the Boundaries Guide
and review an Ethics Document which will be provided at the Disinformation Booth. Because of the terrible secrets unveiled in the finale, absolutely NO filming or photography will be allowed during the final Act of the Devival
; this will be strictly enforced by our participants and servitors.
Ia Ia Cthulhu Fhtagn! Current Mood: evil
"The time would be easy to know, for then mankind would have become as the Great Old Ones; free and wild and beyond good and evil, with laws and morals thrown aside and all men shouting and killing and revelling in joy. Then the liberated Old Ones would teach them new ways to shout, and kill, and revel, and enjoy themselves and all the earth would flame with a holocaust of ecstasy and freedom." --H.P. Lovecraft, "The Call of Cthulhu"
A friend just linked me to this
: a Stanford professor is teaching a class on Burning Man. Part of the class involves attending.
Does anyone know anything else about this? Like, how this isn't
advertising and using the Burning Man name for profit?
|Rack 'em up.
I'd really like to take someone from another country to Burning Man for their first time in the states.
