BOSTON - Several illuminated electronic devices planted at bridges and other spots in Boston threw a scare into the city Wednesday in what turned out to be a publicity campaign for a late-night cable cartoon. Most of the devices depict a character giving the finger.
Peter Berdovsky, 27, of Arlington, and Sean Stevens, 28, of Charlestown, were each charged Wednesday night with one count of placing a hoax device and one count of disorderly conduct, state Attorney General Martha Coakley said.
The two men worked together to place the devices, Coakley said in a news release announcing Stevens' arrest.
Needless to say, the two artists are being used as scapegoats because no sane politician wishes to sue one of the country's largest media outlets, Turner Broadcasting; the idiotic closure of all roads and waterways (because we all know how terrorists ALWAYS use LED lights visible from miles away in the shape of a cartoon character) did cause a lot of aggravation and consternation amongst commuters. There were traffic jams and long lines and SOMEONE has to pay for it... Which of course is ridiculous! Do you jail the person who ordered and paid for an illegal destruction of a building or the construction workers who did it? Do you sue a mining company who illegally mined federal lands or the miners who did the work?
No, this is simple scapegoating!
If you've got some inkling of applicable laws and can help Sean Stevens and Zebbler, please let me know; Sean especially is my friend and has been a linchpin of the Boston burner community, a part of the Redtail Collective, and both are just wonderful guys. There's got to be a way we can help them avoid becoming scapegoats.
x-posted to my journal
Edit to add: As arielost already posted, things don’t look so bleak now.
Both guys are in high spirits and all of us feel that, at this point, we can be cautiously optimistic; everyone is talking about punishing TBS, not them.
So for the time being we have NOT started a legal defense fund or a massage party fundraiser; if we do, I’ll keep all posted.
Edited to add: This is the official website put up for Peter and Sean's case. www.toxicollective.org/ps Please note, we're asking everyone to hold off on any public protest or civil disobedience at present. It's not about free speech, it's about making sure our friends aren't punished for our actions. if the situation escalates, and we need to organize for a rally, I'll let you all know, and they'll announce it on the site. If you do decide to rally, against our best wishes, please be civil. Please don't disrupt the flow of the city. and please don't get arrested. Please refrain from painting the city blinky, as this will definitely worsen the public's (and thus the politician's) view of Sean and Peter.
Thank you all for the help and support.
